Polyomino! Privacy Policy

For the Polyomino! mobile application

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how TowerBit Ltd ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the Polyomino! mobile application ("the App").

We take your privacy seriously. Polyomino! is designed to be played offline and we collect the absolute minimum amount of data necessary to operate the App.

2. Data stored locally on your device

Polyomino! stores all game progress, coin balance, trophy history and settings locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party. If you purchase the premium upgrade, an encrypted identifier for that purchase is also stored locally and displayed within the App. This won't be automatically shared with us, but we might ask you to share it with us if you contact us for support.

3. Data We Collect

Data we collect automatically

  • Installation ID: The App uses Google's Firebase Remote Config SDK to receive configuration that is essential for compliance and correct operation — for example, notifying you about changes to this Privacy Notice or the Terms, or prompting you to update an outdated version of the App. To deliver this configuration, Firebase Remote Config generates and stores a per-installation identifier on your device. This identifier is not linked to your identity and is used solely for the purpose of delivering configuration. There is no analytics or user-behaviour tracking, and all users receive the same configuration regardless of any attribute.

Data we receive from third parties

  • Payment platform data: If you make a purchase (e.g. the premium upgrade), the relevant payment platform (Google Play or the Apple App Store) may share certain pseudonymised information with us, such as transaction ID, purchased item, country, currency, value and timestamp. We do not receive or store any payment card information, name, address or email.
  • Platform Analytics and Crash Reports: Apple and Google collect certain analytics and crash data when you use apps on their platforms. If you have opted-in to share this data with developers via your device settings, the App Stores will share aggregated or pseudonymous data with us, such as device model, OS version, app version, country, and crash logs.

Information you provide to us

We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the App. If you choose to contact us for support or inquiries, you may provide personal information in that communication (e.g. your email address, license key) to help us assist you.

If you volunteer to be an external tester, we may ask for your name, email address and/or the Apple or Google ID associated with your testing devices and any other information useful to identify and resolve issues you encounter while testing (ie screenshots, app activity, device and OS information).

4. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Fulfill our app intended purpose: We use the installation ID to deliver essential configuration that ensures the App functions correctly. For example, we may use it to prompt you to update the App if you're using an outdated version. We use payment platform data to unlock premium features for users who have purchased them. We process all the information mentioned in this section to perform our contract with you.
  • Provide you with support: When providing customer support, we may use your name and email address to communicate with you, and ask for additional information to help us assist you with your inquiry (e.g. app and/or device information, activity on the app, license key, other online IDs). We collect this information to perform our contract with you, comply with our legal obligations, and to pursue our legitimate interests in providing effective customer support and improving our products and services.
  • Ensure security, prevent and detect fraud, fix errors: We use the data the platforms share with us about transactions, crashes and aggregated analytics to monitor for fraudulent transactions, identify and fix bugs and errors, and to ensure the security of the App. We process this information to pursue our legitimate interests in providing a secure and reliable app experience.
  • Comply with legal obligations: We may use and disclose your information as necessary to comply with statutory accounting and tax obligations, to respond to lawful requests from law enforcement, to prevent fraud, or to defend our legal rights. The legal basis for this processing is our compliance with legal obligations and our legitimate interests to safeguard our business and legal rights.
  • Testing and improving our products: If you volunteer to be an external tester, we may use the information you provide to identify and resolve issues you encounter while testing and to enable you to access the App beta versions and features. We process this information on the basis of your consent.

5. Sharing your data

We share your data with the following third parties:

  • Cloud service providers: We use Google Firebase Remote Config to deliver essential configuration to the App. This involves storing and sharing an installation ID with Google.
  • Payment platforms: The relevant payment platform (Google Play or Apple App Store) will handle in-app purchases on our behalf.
  • Testing platforms: If you volunteer to be an external tester, we share your name and email address with Apple (for iOS testing) or Google (for Android testing) to provide you with access to the App beta versions and features.
  • Law and regulatory authorities: We may share your information with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, tax authorities, or other third parties as necessary to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, prevent fraud, or defend our legal rights.
  • Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

6. Children's Privacy

Polyomino! is suitable for all ages and provides a high level of privacy by default for all users. We only process minimal information that is strictly necessary to provide the functionality of the App, ensure security and fulfill our legal obligations. This data is pseudonymised and is not used to create behavioral profiles or for targeted advertising.

If you are a parent and believe we have inadvertently collected information that identifies your child beyond these technical necessities, please contact us at privacy@towerbit.co.ukso we can investigate and delete the data if necessary.

7. Data Retention

We will retain your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. When we no longer need your information, we will securely delete or anonymize it.

Here are some specific retention periods for the data we collect:

  • Firebase Installation ID: We retain the installation ID for as long as the App is installed on your device and continues to receive configuration from Firebase Remote Config. If you uninstall the App, the installation ID will be automatically anonymized.
  • Transactions data: We retain transactions data for as long as necessary to fulfill our contractual obligations to you (e.g. providing access to premium features) and to comply with legal and tax obligations. This typically means we retain this data for a minimum of 7 years after the transaction.
  • Support communication data: We retain the information you provide when contacting us for support for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry and to maintain a record of our communications. This typically means we retain this data for up to 2 years after our last communication with you. Communications related to disputes or legal matters may be retained for a longer period as necessary to resolve the issue, comply with legal obligations, and to defend our legal rights.
  • Analytics and crash data from platforms: We access crash logs via Apple and Google developer consoles, which typically make this diagnostic data available for a rolling period of up to 90 days. We do not download or store this data permanently on our own servers.
  • Testing data from external testers: If you volunteer to be an external tester and provide information to help us identify and resolve issues, we retain that information for as long as necessary to address the issues you report and to provide you with access to the App beta versions and features. We may retain this information for up to 1 year after your last communication with us regarding testing, unless a longer retention period is necessary to resolve any outstanding issues or to comply with legal obligations. You can withdraw from external testing at any time by letting us know and we will delete the information you provided for testing purposes.

8. Data Security

Where data is stored locally on your device, its security depends on your device's own security features. We recommend keeping your device OS up to date and using a strong device passcode. Where data is transmitted (e.g. when the App retrieves remote configuration), we use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS) to protect it in transit.

9. International Data Transfers

We may transfer your information to countries outside of your country of residence, including the United States. If we do so, we will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in accordance with applicable data protection laws. When we transfer your information outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, we may transfer it to countries that have been recognized by the European Commission or the UK Information Commissioner's Office as providing an adequate level of data protection or, if the recipient is based in the U.S., we may ensure that the recipient is a participant in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework program. In the absence of the aforementioned safeguards, we will ensure that standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK Information Commissioner's Office are in place.

10. Your Rights

You have the follwing rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to access: You can request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: You can request that we correct any inaccuracies in your personal information.
